Install Nearmio & add the map to your store
Installing Nearmio takes two steps: add your locations, then add the map block to your theme. No Google API key, no code.
- After installing from the Shopify App Store, Nearmio opens on the Locations page. Add your first location by hand, or jump straight to a CSV import if you have a spreadsheet already (see Import your stockists).
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store ▸ Themes ▸ Customize for the theme you want the map on.
- Pick the page you want the locator on (for example your Store Locator or Contact page), then choose Add block and look under Apps for the Store locator block (by Nearmio).
- Save. The block reads your live locations automatically — nothing to paste in. Optional settings let you set a heading, marker colour, and map height.
Only locations that have a placed pin show up on the map. If a location is missing, check whether it's sitting in the fix queue — see Fix a pin that landed wrong.
Import your stockists (CSV)
If your stockist list already lives in a spreadsheet, import it directly instead of adding locations one by one.
- From Locations, open Import locations from CSV and choose Download the template to get the exact column layout.
- Fill in your rows.
nameis the only required column — everything else (region, phone, hours, website, tags) is optional, but each row needs eitherlat/lngor enough of an address to place a pin:address_line1+city+country, orpostcode+country. Country is not filled in for you, so a row with an address but no country (and nolat/lng) is rejected as invalid. If a row also has a full Google Maps link, its coordinates are used instead of geocoding the address (shortgoo.gllinks carry no coordinates). Headers are matched case-insensitively, so common variants work too (zip→ postcode, state→ region, store→ name). - Drop the file in and choose Preview import. You'll see a row-by-row breakdown — new, updates, duplicates, invalid, and any over your plan's location limit — before anything is imported.
- Choose Commit import. Rows are processed in the background at about two per second, with a progress screen (a long file takes a while, even when every row has coordinates), and you can download a
results.csvwhen it's done.
Re-uploading the same file later updates matching rows in place (matched by your own external_id if you provide one, otherwise by address; a row with neither, such as coordinates only, is added as new each time, so check the preview first), and a pin you've hand-fixed stays put as long as that row's address is unchanged and the row has no lat/lng; coordinates in the file always win.
Adding an external_id column to a list you have already imported does not create duplicates for rows that have an address: a row whose ID no location has yet is matched by address (to a location with no ID), shows as an update, and the ID is saved on that location, so the next upload matches by ID. Two kinds of row are added as new instead: a row whose address belongs to a location that already has a different ID, and a row with only coordinates and no address, even once it has an ID.
If your spreadsheet is in a different layout altogether, hand it to Shopify Sidekick first: it maps your columns to Nearmio's, lists what each row is missing, and can write the rows out in the template layout. See Import any stockist spreadsheet with Shopify Sidekick.
Fix a pin that landed wrong
Every address gets geocoded on save. Most land correctly — but if one can't be placed, or looks like it landed somewhere too vague (a city or postcode centre rather than the actual address), it's flagged instead of silently guessing.
- On the Locations list, choose Needs attention to filter down to anything that needs a look. Each row's status reads Needs fixing or Check pin, and a flagged row shows a Fix pin action instead of Edit.
- You have two ways to fix it:
- Drag the pin on the map to where the store actually is, then choose Confirm pin location. This locks the pin so it's never overwritten by a future re-geocode.
- Correct the address and save — if the street, city, or postcode was wrong or incomplete, fixing it and saving re-runs the geocode.
A location that couldn't be placed (Needs fixing) is left off your storefront map rather than shown in the wrong place. One flagged Check pin is on the map at its approximate spot until you fix it.
Plans & billing
Nearmio has two plans:
- Free — up to 5 locations, all features (search, directions, filters, CSV import, the pin-fixer).
- Pro — $9.99/mo — unlimited locations, everything in Free. Every new store gets a 7-day free trial of Pro, and you're not charged until the trial ends.
Manage your plan any time from Plan in the app nav. If you cancel Pro, you move to Free immediately and any unused time is credited back through Shopify — your oldest 5 placed locations (by date added) stay on your storefront map, and the rest stay saved but stop showing until you're back under the limit or upgrade again. Nothing is ever deleted.
If a CSV import or a manual add would put you over your plan's limit, Nearmio never drops rows silently — it imports up to your limit and reports exactly which ones need an upgrade to add.
How shoppers use the map
What your customers see when they land on the page with the Nearmio map block:
- 📍 Near me — asks for location permission, then sorts the list by distance and recentres the map. If permission is denied or unavailable, the search box is offered instead — no error, no nagging.
- Search — typing a postcode or city does the same, without needing location access.
- The list — distance-sorted cards next to (or below, on mobile) the map; tapping a pin highlights its card and vice versa.
- Get directions — opens directions to the store in Google Maps.
- View on Google — opens the location's Google listing, when one is set.
Nearmio never stores a shopper's precise location or any personal data — only anonymous counts of things like searches and directions taps, which Nearmio uses to run and improve the service. These counts are not shown in the app.
